Yesterday The Fair Work Commission announced:

  • a 5.2% increase to the National Minimum Wage
  • an either 4.6% or $40 per week increase to minimum award wages, depending on the applicable wage threshold.

For anyone not covered by an award or an agreement, the new National Minimum Wage will be $812.60 per week or $21.38 per hour. This increase applies from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2022.

The wage threshold means minimum award wages:

  • above $869.60 per week, will receive a 4.6% increase
  • below $869.60 per week, will receive a $40 increase.

Increases to award rates will apply from 2 different dates. Most awards will increase from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2022 while others will increase from the first full pay period on or after 1 October 2022.

The Fair Work Commission is working on updating their pay tools with the new rates and will notify subscribers when they’re available.
